We are Sonia and Maurizio, two siblings who own Bugan Coffee Lab 🌺

To name our Coffee Lab, we were inspired by the Bougainvillea: Maurizio has always had an innate love for nature, especially flowers.

When we opened our Coffee Lab, Maurizio had a special connection just with the Bougainvillea, so we also chose it for our logo: 3 beautiful fuchsia petals.
The full name was too complicated to pronounce: our customers called us "BUGAN," so the BUGAN COFFEE LAB. Bugan Coffee Lab - The First Coffee Lab in Italy

Our story began on December 19, 2000, when Maurizio opened an all-around coffee shop

We catered breakfasts, business lunches, snacks, and apericena nights, making us a point of reference for the people of Bergamo.

Over the years, Maurizio became more and more involved in the world of coffee: he undertook a series of courses around the world and participated in 3 competitions of the Italian Coffee Barista Championship.
After returning from his first plantation trip to Panama, Mauritius decided to open a coffee school for anyone needing pre-opening training for a coffee shop or cafeteria. Bugan Coffee Lab - Specialty Coffee in Bergamo

On Dec. 4, 2014, BUGAN COFFEE LAB, the first coffee laboratory in Italy, was born: micro-toastery, academy, cupping room and coffee shop

Our philosophy has always been characterized by a careful search for the best raw material.

We look for only the highest quality coffees that have a story to tell and people who, like us, really love coffee.

We choose our specialty coffees directly from the source; in fact, each year Maurizio travels to a different plantation to learn about and taste coffees that meet our standards and those of our customers.

For us, the WOW effect is important; we care about making even newbies fall in love with this wonderful world.

Choosing a Specialty coffee is not so simple: its traceability must be clear and defined, at the sensory level it must pass a certain score defined by a panel of qualified tasters, and the green coffee raw material must not have any defects. That is why we pay special attention along the entire supply chain.

We rank our Specialty Coffees by score

"Everyone's" Specialties have a score of about 80/90 points and a relatively affordable price; "90+" Specialties, on the other hand, have scores above 90, are mainly used in competitions, and have a higher price. However, more and more people understand the difference between an "entry level" Specialty and a 90+, so the sale of the latter is catching on.

Only by tasting them can one understand certain differences and have unique sensory experiences.

We recommend all coffee lovers to enjoy Bugan coffees with some music in the background, close your eyes and travel with your mind. Coffee for us is pure emotion!
